Salmon Ruins

Salmon Ruins

This pueblo was three stories tall and may have contained up to 350 rooms.
The archeaologists tell us this site was built between AD 1088 and 1094,
abandoned by the original Chacoans after only 25 or 30 years,
later re-occupied and modified by another culture,
and permanently abandoned around AD 1265.

These overviews shows maybe 2/3 of what's exposed of the site.

Here's a closer look at one room.
Note the boarded-up doorway which was done
by the second occupation. First construction has
some exquisite craftemanship in the construction details;
work done by the second occupation is noticeably coarser.

Heritage Park is a display of reproductions
of various Native American structures.

These two examples are rooms used separately by
males (like Dan) and females (like Rosemary)
for various daily activities, which undoubtably
did not include recreational touring.
